1925 Silver Dollar Value:Peace Dollars with No Mint Mark or S
Identify a 1925 Peace dollar, find its reverse mint mark, separate Philadelphia from San Francisco, and compare silver content, condition and verified price evidence.
In this article
Quick answer
A 1925 U.S. silver dollar is a Peace dollar containing 90% silver, with approximately 0.7734 troy ounce of fine silver. No mint mark identifies Philadelphia; S identifies San Francisco. It is not a Morgan dollar, and there is no normal 1925-D Peace dollar issue.
PCGS certificate-guide references checked October 21, 2026 list $100 for a Philadelphia MS63 example, $550 for a Philadelphia MS66 example, and $425 for a San Francisco MS63 example. These are issue- and grade-specific retail references, not a range for every worn dollar or guaranteed sale prices. A circulated coin needs its own condition and current silver-market comparison.

Basics & coin story
Anthony de Francisci’s Peace dollar began in 1921 as a design associated with peace after World War I. Its eagle is perched rather than displayed with outstretched wings like the Morgan eagle. Liberty’s radiate crown and the word PEACE on the reverse make it identifiable without relying only on the date.
By 1925 the series used the familiar lower-relief form rather than the special first-year high-relief design. Philadelphia produced 10,198,000 coins. A common date can still be difficult in unusually clean, sharply struck condition. Compare the earlier 1921 high-relief issue and 1924 Peace dollar guide without transferring their prices.

Identification
Confirm Peace rather than Morgan
Look for Liberty’s pointed crown and the perched eagle above PEACE. The inscription rendered as TRVST uses a classical V for U; it is a normal design feature, not a spelling error. The date should read 1925 with the correct design on both faces.
Find the small reverse mint letter
Examine the area below ONE near the tail and rock. An S sends you to the San Francisco entry. No letter is expected on Philadelphia coins. If the area is blurred, use angled light and a close photograph rather than inferring a mint from toning or a seller’s description.
Distinguish weak strike, wear and cleaning
Hair detail near Liberty’s ear and the eagle’s feathers can be soft. Weak strike is not identical to circulation wear; luster continuity and high-point rub help separate them. Parallel hairlines, unnaturally bright surfaces or abrasive patches can reduce collector appeal even if the design remains sharp. For ambiguous surfaces, use the cleaning-identification guide.
Condition & value
Amounts are in U.S. dollars. Certificate-guide references were checked October 21, 2026. Each refers to its stated mint and grade; none is a guaranteed sale price or a universal value for all 1925 dollars.
| Issue | Grade / condition | Value or reference | Basis | Important condition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary circulated 1925 | Grade and surfaces unresolved | Check matching sales | No universal quote asserted | Correct mint and current market required |
| Contained silver | Approximately 0.7734 troy oz | 0.7734 × silver spot per oz | Metal-content calculation | Not a guaranteed buying price |
| Philadelphia certificate example | MS63 | $100 guide value | PCGS cert 45869981 | Problem-free graded comparison |
| Philadelphia certificate example | MS66 | $550 guide value | PCGS cert 45292020 | Do not assign this grade to a worn find |
| San Francisco certificate example | MS63 | $425 guide value | PCGS cert 33265979 | Different mint from Philadelphia |
The certificate-guide figures illustrate why mint and grade must be matched together. Philadelphia and San Francisco are different entries even at MS63; a jump to MS66 changes the preservation requirement as well as the price. A guide estimate is not a transaction or a guarantee of what a buyer will offer. Examine current sales of the same issue before setting a selling price.
For a circulated dollar, the contained-silver formula gives a transparent metal reference without pretending that today’s spot price is fixed. Collector premiums depend on authentication, mint and surfaces. Do not clean a coin to increase its brightness; compare exact grades through the grading scale and keep the 1922 issue in its own comparison.
Summary
Identify the Peace design, read no mark or S on the reverse, and assess surfaces before assigning a price. A 1925 dollar contains about 0.7734 troy ounce of silver. A high-grade certificate value cannot price a worn coin; use current, matching evidence and preserve the surface before seeking offers.
FAQ
Is a 1925 dollar a Morgan or Peace dollar?
A normal 1925 U.S. silver dollar is a Peace dollar. Morgan dollars were not issued with the 1925 date.
What does no mint mark mean on a 1925 dollar?
It normally identifies Philadelphia. The S for San Francisco is on the reverse below ONE near the eagle’s tail.
Why does my 1925 dollar say TRVST?
The design uses a classical V in place of U. TRVST is normal lettering and does not establish a mint error.
Does a $550 MS66 guide value apply to a worn 1925 dollar?
No. That reference is for a specific high-grade Philadelphia example. A worn coin needs its own mint, condition and current market comparison.
