How much is a 1921 Peace dollar worth?
A genuine, problem-free 1921 Peace dollar has a substantial collector premium above its $1 face value. The PCGS retail guide checked October 19, 2026 lists $170 in Good 4, $215 in Very Fine 20 and $260 in Extremely Fine 40. Uncirculated examples rise to $1,050 in Mint State 63 and $4,000 in Mint State 65. These are grade-specific guide estimates, not guaranteed sale prices; cleaned, damaged or misgraded coins require separate comparisons.
All regular 1921 Peace dollars were struck at Philadelphia without a mint mark, in high relief, with 90% silver. Production was 1,006,473. A 1921 Morgan dollar is a different coin with a different price chart. Soft central hair or eagle detail can reflect the strike, so judge wear and surface preservation before assigning a grade.
1921 Peace dollar: the two sides

A new dollar after the First World War
Anthony de Francisci’s design replaced the Morgan dollar at the end of 1921. Liberty’s youthful portrait and the eagle resting above the word PEACE gave the new coin a different message from the earlier dollar. Its introduction followed the First World War, when a peace-themed dollar had become a goal of numismatic advocates.
The first coins were struck during the final days of December 1921 and released in January 1922. That distinction matters: the coin bears its production year, even though people first received it the following year. The very brief first-year production and its high-relief design make 1921 a separate collecting issue, not simply an early date in a uniform price series.

For the two designs struck in 1921, use the 1921 Morgan versus Peace comparison. For the following year’s much larger regular issue, see 1922 silver dollar value.
Identify the date, design and high relief
Start with the reverse. A Peace dollar shows an eagle standing on a rock; a Morgan dollar shows an eagle with wings spread inside a wreath. Both have Liberty on the front, so “Liberty head silver dollar” alone cannot identify which price chart applies.
A normal 1921 Peace dollar has no mint letter. The absence of a letter is expected and does not create a special “no mint mark error.” An apparent S or D, an altered date, or a coin with inconsistent weight needs specialist review. Weight is a screening check, not a standalone authentication test.
High relief does not mean every detail is sharp
The raised design was difficult to bring up completely during striking. The central hair above and behind Liberty’s ear and areas of the eagle can look soft even on an uncirculated example. Wear, by contrast, removes or changes the surface on exposed high points. Examine the movement of luster under gentle light together with contact marks and detail, rather than declaring a coin worn from one flat area.
The V in TRVST is part of the classical lettering. It is not a misspelling error. A deeply reflective surface or sharp strike also does not, by itself, establish a rare Proof. Specialized finish attributions need evidence beyond an attractive photograph.
Keep grading and authentication separate. The coin grading guide explains the condition scale; a plausible grade does not prove that a coin or its date is genuine.
1921 Peace dollar value by grade
| Grade | Guide value | How to use the comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Good 4 | $170 | Heavy circulation wear; genuine, problem-free coin |
| Very Fine 20 | $215 | Moderate circulation wear |
| Extremely Fine 40 | $260 | Light wear with substantial detail |
| About Uncirculated 58 | $500 | Very slight wear; not Mint State |
| Mint State 63 | $1,050 | No circulation wear; marks and strike still matter |
| Mint State 65 | $4,000 | Higher preservation, not merely a bright surface |
The jump between grades is why “1921 Peace dollar worth” has no single answer. Do not interpolate a raw coin’s value from the highest row simply because the date is clear. The guide is a retail reference for the specified issue and grade, not a completed transaction or a dealer’s cash offer.
Keep strike quality and surface problems in the price comparison
Within a numerical grade, an appealing strike and original surfaces can affect demand. Conversely, an abrasive cleaning, rim damage or an old repair may move a coin out of the problem-free guide category. A holder described as “Details” does not mean the price of the same numerical grade with a small automatic discount. Look for sold coins with comparable problems.
Its silver content provides another reference: multiply 0.7734 by a dated silver price per troy ounce. That calculation is metal value only, before transaction costs. It does not replace the collector premium on a genuine 1921 Peace dollar. The table above contains retail guide figures, not live bullion quotations.
If selling, compare several recent sales with the same grade, certification status, strike quality and surface condition. Check whether a reported total includes a buyer’s premium, and keep seller fees separate. The appraisal guide explains which photographs and details help obtain a useful assessment.
What matters most
Identify the Peace design first, then match condition. The October 19, 2026 PCGS guide places problem-free circulated examples at $170 in G4 through $260 in XF40, while MS63 and MS65 are $1,050 and $4,000. Those categories cannot be assigned from date alone.
High relief and no mint mark are normal for 1921. Preserve the surfaces, distinguish weak strike from wear, and compare the exact grade before using a price.
Frequently asked questions
Is a 1921 Peace dollar rare?
It is a distinct first-year high-relief issue with a mintage of 1,006,473. Availability and value vary greatly by grade and surface quality; the date alone does not justify an exceptional-condition price.
What is a 1921 Peace dollar worth in circulated condition?
The PCGS retail guide checked October 19, 2026 lists $170 in Good 4, $215 in Very Fine 20 and $260 in Extremely Fine 40 for problem-free examples. Actual offers depend on condition, authenticity and the market.
Should a 1921 Peace dollar have a mint mark?
No. Regular 1921 Peace dollars were struck at Philadelphia without a mint letter. An absent mint mark is normal, not an error.
Is TRVST an error on a Peace dollar?
No. The V in TRVST is part of the design’s classical lettering. It does not create an error-coin premium.
