2020 Quarters:Five Designs, the Bat Coin and W/V75 Marks
Identify all five 2020 America the Beautiful quarters and distinguish ordinary P/D coins from W/V75 issues, S collector strikes, Proofs and five-ounce silver products.
In this article
Quick answer
The five 2020 quarter designs are National Park of American Samoa, Weir Farm, Salt River Bay, Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller and Tallgrass Prairie. Ordinary worn P and D quarters are copper-nickel clad, with a 25-cent face-value baseline. The bat quarter is the American Samoa design, not an error simply because of its unusual subject.
2020-W quarters have a W mint mark and the V75 privy marking the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. They are separate collectible circulation issues. S regular collector strikes, clad Proofs, .999 silver Proofs and five-ounce silver coins also need their own identification and prices.

Basics & coin story
The America the Beautiful program honored national sites across states and territories. Its 2020 group followed five designs per year; the program’s final Tuskegee Airmen quarter came in 2021. A 2020 coin is therefore not the last issue simply because it is near the end of the series.
The year’s subjects connect wildlife, art and landscape stewardship. American Samoa shows a fruit bat with its young. Weir Farm depicts an artist painting outdoors near the studio. Salt River Bay uses a young mangrove; Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller depicts planting a tree; Tallgrass Prairie places a butterfly before prairie grasses.
This annual guide is a five-design checklist and version comparison. The Salt River Bay guide provides that design’s deeper identification and valuation context, while the national park quarter overview covers the full program.
| Feature | What to check |
|---|---|
| Denomination | 25 cents |
| Ordinary construction | Copper-nickel outer layers over a pure copper core |
| Ordinary nominal weight / diameter | 5.67 g / 24.26 mm |
| Edge | Reeded |
| Regular mint-mark location | Obverse beside Washington |
| Issue date | Read the modern year on the reverse; historical dates can also appear |
| 2020 collectible circulation issue | W plus V75; distinct from ordinary P/D |
| San Francisco products | Separate regular collector strikes and Proofs |
| Silver Proof | 2020 collector Proof: .999 fine silver |
| Five-ounce product | Separate large silver coin, not a normal-sized quarter |
Identification
Five designs, one circulating denomination
| Design / jurisdiction | What identifies the reverse |
|---|---|
| National Park of American Samoa / American Samoa | Fruit bat and its young |
| Weir Farm / Connecticut | Artist working outdoors; A NATIONAL PARK FOR ART |
| Salt River Bay / U.S. Virgin Islands | Young red mangrove |
| Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller / Vermont | Planting a tree; LAND STEWARDSHIP |
| Tallgrass Prairie / Kansas | Butterfly and prairie grasses |
Check W and V75 on the portrait side
Read the actual mint letter beside Washington and inspect the privy on the other side of the portrait. A W/V75 coin remains clad; the W does not mean silver or Proof. The additional Salt River Bay obverse photograph illustrates these marks, while its reverse shares the same design subject.
S does not settle finish or silver content
San Francisco produced more than one collector category. Separate a regular collector strike from a clad Proof and a silver Proof using the correct product and finish evidence. A five-ounce silver version is visibly larger and is not priced by a normal-quarter table.
Condition & value
Amounts are in U.S. dollars. The listed PCGS grade examples were checked October 26, 2026. Ordinary face-value baselines and distinct collector products are separated below. They are not guaranteed purchase offers; current market conditions and selling costs can change the amount received.
| Issue | Grade / condition | Value or reference | Basis | Important condition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary worn 2020 P or D | Circulated | 25¢ face-value baseline | Denomination | Any of the five normal designs |
| 2020-P American Samoa, regular | MS63 | $3 | PCGS guide, October 26, 2026 | Problem-free uncirculated |
| 2020-P American Samoa, regular | MS65 | $7 | PCGS guide, October 26, 2026 | Exact grade must match |
| 2020-P Weir Farm, regular | MS65 | $12 | PCGS guide, October 26, 2026 | Different design, separate reference |
| W/V75 / S collector / Proof / five-ounce | Exact design, product and grade | Compare that entry | Separate markets | No ordinary P price transferred |
These references show why even ordinary uncirculated designs should not share one blanket price. A retail guide is also different from the amount a dealer offers for a loose coin after costs. Original set context can help identify a collector issue, but packaging alone cannot establish grade.
For a W/V75 comparison, match the design, numerical grade and surfaces. A P coin with a mark mistaken for W cannot inherit that premium. The V75 is intentional, rather than an accidental extra stamp. For the bat quarter, staining or damage near a wing or eye does not by itself authenticate a valuable mint error.
Begin by sorting design, mint, finish and condition. For claimed errors, retain full-face and edge photographs before seeking attribution. Do not clean the coin to improve a feature. The grading scale provides the general condition terminology.
Summary
Complete the five-design checklist, then identify the mint and manufacturing category. Ordinary P/D quarters have a 25-cent face-value baseline; W/V75, S and silver collector products require separate comparisons.
